Darwin's Grand Champion RV-7
In 2021, Darwin Barrie flew his just completed RV-7 to Oshkosh, WI for the Summer EAA Air Venture event. This was not the first time he had brought a newly completed experimental aircraft to be judged by the experts at Air Venture. However, earning Grand Champion in 2021 would validate his skill and persistence as a builder.
Darwin is a member of chapter 1614 and has flown in our Young Eagle events almost every year. This month he will bring N717AZ to our meeting and talk about his experience building and flying his award winning RV-7.

15 May Meeting
Stories From Air Venture
Air Venture is Disneyland for pilots. Every pilot should plan to visit the world’s largest air show at least once in their lifetime. Kurt Gearhart has been attending Air Venture since 1998 and will present an event overview and facilitate members sharing their stories. (and you guessed it - he has a few photos). This will be our last meeting until September.
Please join us as we hope to educate and motivate those at the 15 May meeting to plan a trip to Oshkosh sometime in their future.
If you have an item you would like to donate for our monthly raffle, please bring to the meeting or call Greg Cameron or Kurt Gearhart.

Gary Zettl - Flying the F-111 in Desert Storm
Gary has been a photographer for most of Stellar Airpark's Young Eagle events. What most of you probably didn’t know is he flew F-111s in Desert Storm. He has agreed to share his experiences with combat operations as well as his perspective on leadership in a combat deployed squadron. Most lessons of flight safety highlight pilots need to assess all aspects of their flight from planning thru execution. In combat operations, different assessments often lead to conflicts between pilots as well as leadership in a complex environment.
Please join us for this lesson in aviation history and aviation camaraderie on Wednesday, 20 March.
